This article documents how a user can request a digital or physical Course Reserve for an item on their list in Talis Courseflow. Courseflow allows user to put together a "reading" or "resource" list inclusive of all readings/resources the user would like students to interface with in their class. Upon adding a resource to a list, the user is able to request a Course Reserve for that item. Courseflow manages multiple requests for reserves per list (and therefore per class) on a singular page.
To request a course reserve, regardless of format or resource type, users will need to go to their created resource list, and click on the triple-dot drop down menu to the right of the selected resource. From there, they will need to press the "Request course reserve" button:
Upon clicking "Request course reserve", the user will be taken to a page that looks like this:
The fillable fields on this page are defined as follows:
- Request a digital copy: Ticking this optional box allows a user to indicate they would prefer a digital or digitized copy of the resource from the library.
- Start Date & End Date: These two fields indicate the length of time the user would like the Course Reserve to be available for. They are also the only two mandatory fields on the form.
- Message for library: This optional field allows the user to add any additional notes about the resource or the request they are making for the library or digitization team to see.
Upon hitting the "Submit" button, what happens next will differ depending on the resource type (Book, Article, Audiovisual, etc.) of the item selected.
Please note: If the resource you are requesting a Course Reserve for does not have either an ISBN or an ISSN in the bookmarked metadata, you might instead be directed to the screen below. This is to satisfy CCC requirements. The user has the option to bypass this page by ticking the checkbox.
Books & Chapters
If the item the user is requesting is a Book or Chapter, the second page of the Course Reserve request form will look like either of these pages depending on choices made below:
The fillable fields on this page are defined as follows:
- This is a full chapter: This tick box tells the library or digitization team that the user is requesting an entire chapter - not just a range of pages.
- Chapter name: This required field is only visible when the "This is a full chapter" box is ticked. It is a required field when the user is requesting an entire chapter.
- Page Range: This field is required when the "This is a full chapter" box is not ticked. These fields allow the user to indicate which pages they need made available for their Course Reserve request. The "Add page range" button allows the user to request multiple sets of page ranges. Each subsequent page range will be numbered ("Page Range #1", "Page Range #2", etc.).
- Reference Range: This optional field allows users to input any notes or bibliography pages in the book they would like to have included in their Course Reserve request. The "Add reference range" button allows the user to request multiple sets of reference ranges. Each subsequent reference range will be numbered ("Reference Range #1", "Reference Range #2", etc.).
Once the "Submit" button is clicked, the Course Reserve has been sent to the library or digitization team. The user will be directed to the following page:
Articles & Journals
If the item the user is requesting is an Article or Journal, the second page of the Course Reserve request form will look like this page:
If the article or journal has specific pages, bibliographies, or other items that need to be digitized, "Reference range" is an optional field that allows the user to indicate the start and end pages of their request.
All Other Resource Types
Once the "Submit" button is pressed on the first "Request course reserve" page, these resources will be redirected directly to the following page:
What Happens Next?
