New releases and fixes for Talis Courseflow
Release Update - 16th March 2026
New Feature
An additional filter has now been added to the All List Items report. This ensures that users can specify either one or multiple tags to identify items of interest before the report is exported.
Release Update - 12th March 2026
New Features
Two additional columns have now been added to the All List Items report. Once exported you can use these to see an indication of a File Type for items which have been uploaded via Talis Engage, and also to view any tags which may have been added to list items. A filter allowing you to identify individual tags before exporting the report will follow shortly.
Release Update - 13th February 2026
New Feature
Tagging has now been released for Talis Courseflow. We have enabled this feature for all System Administrators and you'll be able to start adding your new tags to the system straight away.
Release Update - 13th January 2026
New Feature
The second filter which appears at the top of all lists now offers the option to select multiple fields, to further refine the resources displayed to the user. So you could for example choose to filter the list to Physical Resources with a Library Note, when previously you would only have been able to select one option at a time. Note that the new options apply to both students and staff, but that the filter will display slightly different options depending on what permissions the user has.
Release Update - 17th December 2025
New Feature
We have added new filters to the All Lists report, allowing you to report on the Description and Internal Note fields which can be added to any list within the system. We know that many institutions have developed workflows which use these features in a specific way - for example adding notes about alternative format requirements - so this will allow users to quickly identify all lists which fall within a given group.
Release Update - 5th November 2025
Improvement
We've made a change to the way that the new bookmarking workflow behaves. The workflow is designed to show the end user options from multiple sources when bookmarking to ensure that good metadata is captured. However, based on user feedback, any results from Open Library will now not be displayed when a book is bookmarked and we have been able to find a match in the Library Catalogue.
Release Update - 22nd October 2025
New Feature
We have added a new feature for tenancy-wide privacy. This was developed following feedback that users from other courses can access copyrighted materials where licensing does not allow for outside individuals to gain access.
The tenancy-wide privacy setting means that your tenancy can now be configured so that only tutors/students on an individual course or module can see the relevant list. This works by hiding the tenancy homepage from users so they cannot search for all reading list content.
If you are interested in switching this on, please raise a support ticket. You can also read more about this feature and how it works in this support article: Tenancy-Wide Privacy.
Release Update - 15th October 2025
Improvement
We have made an update to the Table of Contents feature. Some users had reported that clicking on a section header did not always take users directly to the section that they had intended, this has now been addressed.
Improvement
Based on user feedback, we've made an adjustment to Talis Engage. A list needs to be plugged into the hierarchy before copyright checks can be carried out against relevant items; previously we had hidden the 'Upload file' option on affected lists, but now we instead display a pop-up message to users, giving them guidance on how to proceed.
Release Update - 14th October 2025
Improvement
We've made an enhancement to the Mandatory Importances feature. Previously the workflow had only prompted users to set an importance during the 'Create and Add to List' workflow, or at the point of publishing a list / sending it for Review.
We've now also inserted this feature into the 'Add Resource' workflow, so that when a user is building a list and hits the 'Add Resource' button, any results that display in the pop-up will prompt the user to set an importance at the point before it can be added. A screenshot is below:
More information about the Mandatory Importances feature is available in this support article - Mandatory Importances. If you would be interested in enabling it on your tenancy, please raise a support ticket.
Release Update - 7th October 2025
Improvement
We've made a further enhancement to the 'Add Resource' workflow. Now when a user is shown their bookmarks / search results, a label will indicate the availability of that item. This brings this area into line with the new bookmarking workflow.
Release Update - 29th September 2025
New Feature
We have added a new feature for users of Talis Course Reserves. Users had fed back that the preconfigured reports on the homepage needed to be more flexible, so we have now added 2 new date pickers that will allow users to generate their own tailored reports.
The Requests Overview date pickers will allow you to check on the status of digitisation requests raised within a period of your choosing. The onscreen numbers will update automatically as you alter the date settings:
You can also do similar with the usage statistics of your scans, further down the page. Again, the onscreen numbers will update automatically as you alter the date settings:
Release Update - 17th September 2025
Improvement
The new bookmarking workflow features a preview of a item before it is added to a list. We've now added this feature to the 'Add Resource' flow too, so that when users click on the title of an item that appears in the pop-up, they will be able to see the full metadata available for the item displayed. They can then click on 'Add to List' if they're happy with what's available.
Note that this feature works both for previously saved bookmarks, and for items found if you are using a Discovery Layer integration. Items displaying from the Nielsen Book integration will continue to show different editions and whether or not the library holds a copy of each.
Release Update - 6th August 2025
Improvement
Customers who are using our open access bookmarking feature and using the new bookmarking workflow will now see an open access label and an open access link displayed within the link availability sections of their resource. To choose the open access link as your linking method, you will need to edit the resource and select it.
Release Update - 24th July 2025
New Feature
Our new bookmarking workflow is now available for switching on. The new workflow is designed to make the bookmarking process more efficient, by showing users a preview of what is being saved, offering alternative suggestions for metadata, and allowing them to add an item directly to an existing list.
Further information and instructions on enabling can be found in this support article - Bookmarking Workflow.

Release Update - 5th June 2025
Improvement
We're changing the behaviour of the Invitations screen in Talis Courseflow, where admins can see which invites have been sent to which users. You told us that this can become long and difficult to use over time; in addition, there are data protection implications where invites which were sent some time ago to people who are no longer at the institution are displayed. To address this, all invites will be cleared from that screen after a 6 month period.
Release Update - 14th May 2025
New Feature
Related to the release of Talis Engage, the All List Items report now features a new filter. This will allow administrators to monitor easily which list items have had files uploaded against them.
Release Update - 13th May 2025
New Feature
Talis Engage has been made live. This is a new feature which allows teaching staff / library staff to upload files directly to lists, so that students can then directly annotate the text to produce a class discussion, or use the Personal Notes feature to track their own learning. Many other features are also included, a collection of support articles are available at: https://support.talis.com/hc/en-gb/sections/26623073536413-Talis-Engage
Talis Engage needs to be enabled on your tenancy before you can start to use it. If you would like to do this, please raise a support ticket by emailing: support@talis.com
