The Talis Courseflow bookmarking workflow is designed to make the bookmarking process efficient, by showing users a preview of what is being saved, offering alternative suggestions for metadata, and allowing them to add an item directly to an existing list.
Bookmarking
The workflow is triggered by clicking the extension to bookmark an item. Exactly what is displayed to the user will vary slightly depending on the format of the item being bookmarked, and the metadata that is available. The bookmarking preview screen will always tell the user where the displayed metadata has been captured from, and will indicate if the item is available in the library catalogue or is an online resource.
Please note: "Available in library" does not necessarily mean the resource has print availability but rather that it is in your library holdings (whether electronically or in print).
Some examples are below:
Book:
Journal article:
Webpage:
To explore any alternative sources, the user can click on 'See Matches'. They can then select their preferred source, which will return them to the preview screen.
When the user is happy with what's been captured, they can click on 'Save in my Bookmarks'; a 'Your bookmark has been successfully created' message confirms a successful save.
Adding to a List
Once a bookmark is saved, the user is routed to a 'Bookmark created' screen. From here they may edit the bookmark, return to the original resource, or choose to add it directly to an existing list. The 'Add to list' options will appear at the side of the screen:
Selecting 'Add to list' will open a new screen:
Here the user can select the item's importance (required if your tenancy is using mandatory importances), its position in the list, and any library notes / student notes can also be added, as if they were editing directly from the list itself. When complete, the user receives confirmation. Note that when an item is added to a list in this way, the list still needs to be re-published before the changes are visible to students.
Editing
The bookmarking workflow also includes a separate editing screen, for users who wish to make changes to metadata by adding to or amending what's been captured. Users can edit any of the existing fields, delete fields which aren't required by clicking the action menu next to them, or can add fields by selecting from the options on the right of the screen. When they are finished, clicking 'Save in My Bookmarks' will take them to the 'Bookmark created' screen.
Lookup
From the preview screen, users may also choose to do a direct lookup via ISBN, DOI or Local Control Number:
Once an identifier has been added, any results will be displayed so that the user can select the version that best meets their requirements.
